Happy holidays! I hope this message finds you doing well and enjoying time with family. Please take a few minutes to read the important updates below as we get set to resume our basketball season.
Practice and Tournament Update
As previously communicated, our season will resume with practices starting Monday, January 4th. We expect the school district to approve our gym times today and to have practice times for next week posted to the OBA website by the end of the day.
Tournaments will resume starting January 16th. COVID forced a number of changes to our tournament schedule so please visit your team's home page for the most up to date tournament schedule.
Masks and Spectators
Masks will now be required for ALL practices and ALL games at ALL times for players and coaches/fans. Please take some time to ensure your player has a mask (and several backups) they are comfortable practicing and playing in before Monday.
Spectators allowed in tournaments will be very limited or not allowed. This will be handled tournament by tournament and may change as the season progresses or based on the location's capacity requirements. We will keep you updated on any universal changes to these restrictions as they occur.
COVID Procedures and Tracking
All COVID-related cases, close contacts, or symptoms MUST be reported to the OBA. Please use the form at the following link if your player has symptoms, is in close contact with a positive case or has a positive case. It's imperative we know about these events so that we can take appropriate action to limit the spread. https://forms.gle/BBTGc53edpi8Hn63A
Updates have been made to our OBA Return to Play procedures for practices and games. Please take a minute to refresh yourself on these policies. We need 100% compliance as we start to use district facilities again next week.
The return to play document, the tracking form, and several other helpful resources can be found on the COVID webpage on the OBA website. https://www.owatonnabasketball.com/covid
Registration Fees
As a board, we made the decision to hold all registration fees until the first tournament of the season had been completed. That continues to be our policy so registration checks will not be deposited until the week of January 18th. With the shortened season, we do anticipate some portion of registration fees to be refunded to families. Additional details about the timing and amount of that refund will be sent in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility and support of OBA. We are excited to get back into the gym next week!
Happy New Year to all our OBA families!
On behalf of the entire OBA board -
Matt Ginskey
